Cameron Leckenby is an Independent candidate for Nanaimo City Council in the October 17, 2026 general local election. A longtime Nanaimo resident, he sailed seven summers on the Salish Sea as a member of BC Ferry & Marine Workers' Union Local #2 before moving into public service work. He served on the City of Nanaimo Youth Advisory Council and later helped organize the Courtenay-Alberni MP Youth Advisory Council for MP Gord Johns, where members identified environment and climate as a first focus. He currently works as Convocation Lead at Vancouver Island University. In June 2026 he initiated federal e-petition e-7474, sponsored by Gord Johns, calling for fair, stable, long-term federal operational support for BC Ferries as essential national transportation infrastructure; the petition gathered more than 5,750 signatures.
