Richard Harlow is a candidate for Nanaimo city council. Born in Nanaimo, he lost most of his sight in his early twenties and rebuilt his life here as a painter and small business owner. He has spent six years on the City's accessibility and inclusion committee and has been a CNIB ambassador since 2017, helping bring improvements such as level sidewalks across side streets, accessible crosswalks and bus stops, and accessible washrooms and beach access at Westwood Lake and Neck Point. His platform puts accessibility as the lens over safer streets and emergency response, affordability, health care close to home, and climate resilience.
